Watertown has fantastic youth basketball programs for kiddos who are kindergarten age through high school. The programs are provided by a combination of groups including the city recreation department, a non-profit organization, and an all-volunteer group, plus the Watertown Public Schools.
One vacation morning, I asked my family to keep an eye on the boys while I went out for a walk. When I returned, Eric was missing. I immediately went to the backyard and there he was, by himself, at the edge of the pool. Someone had forgotten to secure the gate and others forgot to keep an eye on my child…
When that ‘Summer is almost over’ feeling hits, it may be time to take a day off and surprise those kiddos with a day trip (within two hours of Watertown). Here are fun trips that my kids have loved over the years (as well as an idea from my fellow moms Liz and Donna!).
Turf and Get Lively(R) Health & Fitness Studio hosted the first-annual Pass the Torch: Youth Sports Equipment Rally to get gently used equipment into the hands of local kids. At the end of a very busy and beautiful spring day, we were left with a few items of value, so we headed over to Play it Again Sports in Waltham to trade them for cash. We planned to push the cash back to the community in the form of a recreational scholarship designed to help a family defray some the expense of a program for which their child would like to participate.
Turf rounded up the amount received from Play it Again and matched it so that it can now offer a 2024 Turf Recreation Scholarship of $200. Apply for the scholarship before September 3, 2024. Tap “Learn More” for details.
I was taking pictures of the equipment we’ll be bringing to the Pass the Torch: Youth Sports Equipment Rally on April 27 and when I got to a cute little, blue baseball mitt, a memory triggered and I can’t stop thinking about it!
This article covers how to have fun with your kiddo while practicing basic soccer skills at home. It’s not about how to coach them up, but rather, get some time in practicing the skills they’re likely learning from their soccer coach. Laughing and being silly is required.
The first things to consider are your budget and how serious your kiddo is about soccer. They are growing like the proverbial weed, so if you purchase equipment now, it will likely not be right for them next year.
There are 4-5 basic pieces of equipment that they’ll need for game play.
